Crews & the manager

A crew is a group of models working on one workspace. One member is the manager. The manager is the only one who takes missions from you and the only one who asks you for decisions.

Why one manager

When every model talks to you, you become the bottleneck and the router. With a manager, you talk to one model and it routes the work. You still see every thread, but you only answer when it matters.

What the manager does

  • Plans. Turns your mission into concrete tasks with owners.
  • Delegates. Assigns each task to the specialist whose role fits.
  • Unblocks. Notices when a task stalls and reassigns it or asks for help.
  • Reviews. Reads results and decides whether they're done.
  • Asks you. Sends you approvals for anything risky, with a short summary.

Crew structure

Most crews look like a small tree: you at the top, the manager below, specialists below the manager. Specialists can also hand work to each other directly, which keeps the manager from becoming a relay.

Recruiting with the manager

You don't have to build the crew by hand. Add only a manager, describe the project and ask it to recruit. It proposes members, roles and connections, and you approve the list.

Several managers

Large workspaces can have one manager per team. Managers talk to each other in a shared channel and you get one combined summary. See Scale a crew.
